How to Recognize a Knock Off Movado

Introduction

Knock of Movado watches are relatively easy to spot. They have a number of flaws that you can look for. Most Movado watch counterfeits are made by foreigners. They are not looked over by any sort of quality control group. Therefore, they have mistakes that you will notice and therefore you will be able to recognize a fake Movado from a genuine Movado watch. These mistakes will include incorrect printing and contamination to the watch itself.

Difficulty: Easy

Things You'll Need:

- Jeweler’s loupe

Instructions

Step 1

Look for spelling and grammatical errors. Most counterfeit Movado watches are made by foreign workers. Therefore, spelling errors are common. Carefully go over all words on the watch because the smallest of mistakes can give the watch away as a fake.

Step 2

Examine the surface of the dial for dust, fingerprints, and hair. There should be none of these on real Movado watches. If you find any dust, fingerprints, or hair, you can be pretty sure that you have found a fake Movado watch.

Step 3

Check the logo. Movado copies may have the logo glued onto the end of the crown. Inspect the crown for signs of uneven edges or glue.

Step 4

Inspect the dial and date wheel with a jeweler’s loupe. All the printing should be clear and sharp. There should not be any fuzzy edges or blending of letters. A watch with any irregular print would never have made it out of the factory.

Tip

A real Movado watch will wind up smoothly. You should not be able to feel movement in the case.
